Campus police arrest catalytic converter theives

On May 22, a witness observed an African-American male getting into the passenger seat of a car with a yellow saw. An African-American female was seen in the driver's seat. Police say that the female was acting as a lookout while the theft was being committed. A witness described the vehicle as a 2004 Charcoal Grey Nissan, 4-door sedan with 20-in, 3-spoke chrome rims, TX license plate DZH879.
Eastfield Police served arrest warrants on Wednesday, for siblings Gary and Karen A. Woods of Dallas after following up on the license plate number. Karen was taken into custody at her residence on John West Road. in Dallas. At the time the warrant was served, Gary was being held at Lew Sterrett County Jail.
Previously the two had been picked up by Dallas police on Friday, after a witness observed Gary Woods crawl underneath a car and emmerged two-and-a-half minutes later, holding a complete catalytic converter. Karen remained in the Nissan and acted as the getaway driver.
According to Lt. Ray Hill of the Eastfield Police, Karen Woods was apprehended without incident.
"She acted like she didn't know what was going on when we first arrived," Hill said. "In fact, she said that she was just about to leave to pick up her brother."
Following arrest, Karen Woods was transported by Eastfield Police to Lew Sterrett County Jail.
The witness to the thefts at Eastfield positively identified the two as those seen on May 22. In addition, footage of the pair in the parking lot was captured on Eastfield security cameras.
Both Karen and Gary Woods were arraigned on Felony Theft charges and given bonds of $100,000. If convicted, both can face a minimum sentence of two years in state jail.
Eastfield police are currently searching for two females and one male in connection to the May 19 thefts.
