On Monday Dallas Area Rapid Transit instituted changes to over 40 of its more than 130 bus routes, including the route that services Eastfield. When changes were initially proposed last year, DART Manager of Media Relations Morgan Lyons said riders protested, which caused the agency to make significant changes to the plan.
In honor of Women's History Month, the Business and Fine Arts division sponsored a panel discussion featuring women highlighted in the book Chicanas In Charge: Texas Women in the Public Arena. Chicanas In Charge was compiled by Jose Angel Gutierrez, Michelle Menendez, and Sonia Adriana Noyola.
Eastfield held a mock political caucus on Tuesday, Feb. 5 in the 'C' building pit. It was held to inform students about the different candidates policies and encourage them to get involved in the political process. Students and faculty hosted a booth for each candidate and handed out fliers with short explanations of the candidates' stances on issues.
The theme of this year's African-American Read-In was Words and Music. All That's Jazz lead by music professor Oscar Passley played the soul jazz of late Miles Davis as the opening acts." It's never about me, it's about how I can influence my community or get my students involved, "Passley said.
Eastfield's administration put out a student survey in late February to see what kind of sports students might be interested in having at Eastfield in the future. Head basketball coach and athletic director Anthony Fletcher circulated the majority of the fliers and over about four days collected more than 350 surveys from students.
