Sex is the second-most powerful word in the English language right underneath the word free. If you were to put those two words together in say, a relationship, you bring about the most powerful activity in existence.

According to sex educator Dr. Yvonne K. Fulbright, sex can act as a pain reliever, stress reducer, cardiovascular workout, immunity booster and even decreases the risk of some cancers. It has also been found to help cure insomnia.

She said the excretion of the chemical dehydroepiandrostone during intercourse can give you shinier hair, brighter eyes and an all-around more youthful appearance.

Even with just the physical health benefits, sex is one of the best things in life, but it has so much more to offer relationships than just a healthy workout.

Sex causes the build up of bundles of chemicals throughout the body. Oxytocin is a bonding chemical excreted mostly during male and female orgasm. However, it is also the chemical produced during breast feeding which causes mothers to bond with their babies.

Dopamine and other neurotransmitters are the building blocks of pleasure sensation. These chemicals will be more abundant in people who are sexually active therefore any type of pleasure such as food, massage, or just the wind on your neck will be enhanced by the frequency of your sex.

Author and founder of Tantra.com Suzie Heumann said in her book The Everything Kama Sutra Book "When all is said and done it's not technique that makes the great lover, it's presence. Attention, care, focus, listening, consciousness, and compassion mostly have to do with your brain, not your genitals."

Spending more time touching, kissing, sending love letters, bathing together, going away for a weekend where you stay in bed the whole time, and even putting it in your weekly planner can help you to increase intimacy, which will help bring you closer as a couple - and create some health benefits as well.
