The N Building receives an extreme makeover this summer. The N Building began its first of two phases on June 8 to enhance the learning experience for students.
"The N Building remodeling is all a part of the money funded to improve the buildings at Eastfield," said Workforce and Economic Development dean Lindle Grigsby.
The funds for the remodel are part of the money received from the $450 million bond election in 2004. Grigsby said there will be two phases in the modeling of the N Building. The first phase is the remodeling of the former social sciences offices, the computer classroom and the special testing room to better suit the staff and studios needed for the Gateway grant project. This remodeling also includes the installation of a new sprinkler system. After the new Center for Child and Family Studies Building is opens in October, phase two of the remodel will begin.
Teresa Allen, an employee who will relocate into the new childcare center, said she is excited about the changes made and said it's great they will have more space for the children. She is also happy to see that the N Building will get more things added on to it with the population growth here on campus.
During the second phase, the former child care area will become offices for the campus police.
The first floor will receive a new north entrance toward the Technology Building with two additional classrooms. The second floor of will receive some new work as well. The old Continuing Education area and the three classrooms on the north end of the second floor will be remodeled into four modernized learning studios similar to the ones found in the new LC Building.
Furthermore, The Et Cetera offices will have some walls removed to expand work space available for newspaper staff.
"I think it's great that the N Building will be receiving a face-lift," said student newspaper advisor Marti Harvey. "It's good to modernize the building and the N Building needs it."
Harvey hopes the new remodeling will give her newspaper staff more workspace and give the N Building a fresh look. She also hopes to use it as a recruiting tool to get more people involved with the campus newspaper.
The Upward Bound offices are also included in the remodel. The Upward Bound offices will receive new paint and carpet.
During the remodeling there will be a new delivery road created behind the bookstore. The dock will be used as a delivery area for both the Follett bookstore and Subway. There is also a plan to close the drive between the S and C Buildings to form a walkway that will lead into the campus courtyard between the C and N Buildings.
This July the Follet bookstore will receive some remodeling too.
