Argyle is a pattern up of rhombus shaped with a diagonal shaped checkerboard. A distant relative to plaid, argyle was also featured on tartans and other Scottish clothing wear. It was commonly worn as socks by the Scottish Cambell Clan. In the early 20th, argyle was also popular among men and later seen in the 1980's as a preppy style and worn by golfers. Now, Argyle has returned for Fall 2009 featured on a few runways shows as well. Quite recently Russel Simmons has released new jewelry featuring argyle patterns on a dog tag chain and Ralph Lauren featured argyle design on his fall ready to wear show.
